Inter University Singing Competition held at Preston University Islamabad


An inter university singing competition was held at Preston University, Islamabad Campus today. The event was held as a part of the week long festivity of the university that kicked off on Monday, April 12, 2010. Eleven universities from Islamabad, Kohat, Peshawar and Karachi participated in the competition. Students of Preston University, Islamabad, Kohat, Peshawar and Karachi campuses also participated and showed their talent in singing.

The competition was divided into two categories; girls and boys. In the girls category Miss. Sibra Rana of Iqra University carried the first position. Second position was won by Zainab Ashraf of Preston University, Islamabad and the third position went to Miss Rabia Tabassum of NUML, Islamabad.

In the boys category, Mr.  Muslim Habibi of Iqra University, Islamabad grabbed the first position. Second position was won by Mr. Shirazi Ali of Preston University, Islamabad. Mr. Usman Fazal of FAST, Islamabad was awarded the third position.

Ms. Rubina Qaim Khani, Member National Assembly of Pakistan and Chairman, National Assembly Standing Committee on Social welfare was the Chief Guest on the occasion. Eminent Classical Singer, Ustad Fateh Ali presided over the function as the Guest of Honor.

In her brief address to the students Chief Guest, Ms. Qaim Khani said it was truly a delight for her to see the jubilance of the students present on the occasion. She profoundly appreciated the performance of the students who performed so brilliantly in the competition. Some of them, she said, were indeed outstanding. She said the exuberance of the students reminded  of college days. On the occasion, she lauded the endeavors of Preston University towards  promotion of higher education in the country. She profoundly eulogized the contribution of the university in imparting state-of-the-art knowledge and education to the students community of Pakistan. Ms. Qaim Khani urged upon the youth of this country, particularly the students, to work dedicatedly and untiringly to build the country and this nation. They are the future leaders of this country and great responsibility lies on their shoulders make Pakistan stand out in the comity of respected world nations. She heartily congratulated the students who won first, second and third positions in the singing competition, and expressed the hope that they would make efforts to earn such laurels for themselves, their institutions and for their country in every other field in times to come.

Later, she distributed prizes among the winners of the singing competition.
