A Painting and Sketching Competition was held at Preston University, Islamabad on April 12, 2010. The events were held as part of the week-long inter-university competitions that kicked off today. A large number of universities participated in the event. Eminent Actor, Painter and Chairman, Hunerkada College of Visual and Performing Arts, Islamabad was the Chief Guest on the occasion.

Addressing the students and other distinguished guests present on the occasion, Mr. Jamal Shah profoundly congratulated the Chancellor of Preston Uinversity, Dr. Abdul Basit for organizing Spring Splash 2010-an activity-filled week in which several inter-university competitions are being held. He thanked the university for providing him the opportunity to be a part of this important event. Mr. Jamal heartily congratulated the students who won 1st, 2nd and 3rd positions in the painting and sketching competitions. He said that art is the least dangerous and most effective mode communication. It plays a very effective role in spreading the message of love and affection, and promotes universal brotherhood. In the present critical times when the entire world is in utter turmoil, the importance of this medium cannot be the least exaggerated. He urged the Chancellor of Preston University to establish a department of Fine Arts in the University, and provide the students an opportunity to have access to this important field of education also.

Speaking on the occasion, Chancellor Preston University, Dr. Abdul Basit thanked Mr. Jamal Shah for taking time out from his busy schedule and grace the occasion as Chief Guest. He congratulated the students who won 1st, 2nd and 3rd positions in the painting and sketching competitions respectively.

In the painting competition the first position was grabbed by Miss. Nausheen Butt of Iqra University, second position went to Miss. Huzaifa of Institute of Space Technology and Mr. Hameed Afzal of Preston University got the 3rd position. In the Sketching Competition, Mr. Haider Ali of Institute of Space Technology stood first, Mr. Imran Hassan of Fast University stood second and Mr. Ovais Saeed from the International Islamic University stood third.

Later Mr. Jamal Shah, Chief  Guest of the occasion, distributed prizes among the first, second and third position holders of both competitions.
